Samoa Travel Holidays
Samoa provides a Pacific Island holiday among some of the worlds most amazing island scenery. It is located to the north of Tonga, north east from the Cook Islands and north west from Fiji giving it a central location among the Pacific Island groups. The main islands are Upolu and Savaii and there are nine islands in the Samoan group. The islands are volcanic in origin and are covered with dense rain forests. Apart from the usual tourist attractions that you just naturally expect when you visit a tropical island, you know the sensational beaches, unbelievable turquoise lagoons and the waving coconut palms, well you obviously get those by the dozen in Samoa but the other things you didn’t expect can take your breath away. Magnificent waterfalls and rainforest rock pools that you can see on a trek through the local hinterland. Fantastic blowholes along the rocky parts of the coastline and a surf break to get any true surfers adrenaline flowing.
The Samoan people are famous for their arts and crafts. Visit the local markets where you can buy foodstuffs and provisions or choose from a wide array of tapas and woven items. Intricate patterns woven into their items reflect ancient designs that are part of their heritage and great care is taken to ensure they have been faithfully reproduced. Apia is the capital of Samoa and is located on the island of Uplou. It has a population of about 35000 and is a great place to stay or stroll around the town and enjoy the local restaurants, cafes and lifestyle.
The island of Savaii has a population of 42000 and is the third largest Polynesian island. You an get to Savaii via a ferry ride from Upolu and you will find that on arrival, you have gone back in time. Savaii will introduce you to the true Samoan traditional lifestyle. Here you can join in a traditional Samoan feast or go to church on a Sunday and enjoy the harmonised singing that the islanders do so well. Savai is also a scenic masterpiece with rainforest walks, waterfalls, swimming holes, beautiful beaches and secluded bays. Savaii is also home to the active volcano Mt. Matavanu which last erupted some 100 years ago and left a 500 square kilometre lava field behind it.
There are many hotels in Samoa, that is why it is a great destination for surfers with some magnificent breaks. It is not a place for beginners as most of these waves break onto a reef. Local guides will show you the best places and you will be required to pay a fee to surf here. The monies raised from this fee go towards an education fund for the islands children. There are resorts on both Upolu and Savaii that cater especially for visitors who want to ride the local waves. Other fantastic attractions include Robert Louis Stevenson’s home and museum.
Samoa is the holiday destination of a lifetime and now it is beckoning you.
